KURNOOL: A People’s War statement ordering TD district leaders to quit politics may prove costly for the party in the coming elections. Party leaders in about 50 villages of seven mandals have been submitting their resignations.
The PW, in an open statement, has asked TD leaders to resign from the party as well as from their posts in the administration.
The naxalites even killed two party leaders in November for attending a meeting at Atmakuru in which four ministers participated.
The naxalites blasted a cinema hall and a Telugu Desam leader’s house and conducted a famine raid in the last week. These incidents have reportedly given tense moments to Telugu Desam Party leaders in Kothapalli, Atmakuru, Velugodu, Srisailam, Bandiatmakuru, Mahanandi and Rudravaram mandals in the district.
Over 50 villages in these mandals are naxalite-affected and the state police launched massive combing operations in these villages about two months ago. These villages are located adjacent to the dense Nallamala forests which are spread across Kurnool, Mahabubnagar, Prakasam, Nalgonda and Guntur.
Indreswaram sarpanch in Atmakuru mandal, Rajamohan Reddy, and Vadlaramapuram sarpanch Dharma Reddy have resigned from their primary memberships in the TD. Vadlaramapuram panchayat secretary Sivamohan Reddy has quit his post in the panchayat. Earlier, the naxalites demanded Regional Women and Child Welfare Board director B Tulasamma to resign from her post in district Telugu Desam Party.
She is the party’s district ad-hoc committee member. They blasted her new house in Santajuturu village in Bandiatmakuru mandal two weeks ago. Though, Tulasamma officially has not resigned from the party post, she has not been attending any party activities.
Ministers N Md Farooq and K Prabhakar visited the village and condemned the act of the naxalites. Meanwhile, other TD leaders in these seven mandals are in a dilemma whether to continue in the party or quit. “The party has to face a lot problems if the PW naxalites continue striking at these villages,’’ a senior TD leader said.
The leader said the district has not witnessed violence ever and the leaders have plans to leave their villages like their counterparts in Telangana.
